Baguio registers 10,000 live births last year

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan has reiterated the importance of parents or guardians to inculcate the right values to their children or young wards.
He pointed out that education and guidance of young people should start at home so that children will be properly guided about their choices in life.
The chief executive made this statement after a report of the civil registry office revealed that 973 babies were delivered in the city by mothers 19 years of age and younger in 2016 with 13 babies by those below the age of 15 years.
The report was revealed in Monday’s flag-raising ceremonies at city hall in celebration of Civil Registration Month with the theme, “Pilipinong Rehistrado, Matatag na Kinabukasan ay Sigurado”.
Civil registry office head Sylvia Laudencia said that 10,298 live births were registered here last year representing a slight decrease as compared to those registered in 2015 at 10,345.
“Out of last year’s total, 5,353 were males while 4,945 were females which mean that more boys than girls are still being born in the city,” she said.
As to legitimacy, the report stated that 4,839 or 46.99 percent of the babies born last year were illegitimate or slightly lower than those born in 2015 with 4,871 or 47.09 percent.
