Cordillera DRRMC urges public to help curb dengue cases

“We encourage the members of the CDRRMC and the local DRRM councils to participate in the regionwide simultaneous search and destroy of mosquito breeding sites,” said Albert Mogol, chairman of the CDRRMC and Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) regional director in the Cordillera.
Mogol also urged all sectors to participate and apply the 4-S to combat dengue –“Search and Destroy”, “Self-protection measure”, “Seek early consultation” and “say yes to fogging when there is an impending outbreak”.
The CDRRMC issued Memorandum 47-2019 following Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Franciso Duque’s declaration of a national dengue epidemic for a localized response to enable the local governments to use the quick response fund to address the health issue.
The DOH’s declaration is a reminder to the public to always be wary about dengue and prevent its spread in the communities.
“Everyone is encouraged to help rid their respective places, inside and their surroundings of possible breeding sites,” Mogol said.
On Tuesday, Geeny Ann Austria, a nurse at the regional disease surveillance unit, said the Cordillera has recorded 3,944 dengue cases as of July 27. This is a 19 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Apayao recorded 710 cases; Benguet, 660 cases; Abra, 604 cases; Kalinga, 422; Ifugao, 413; Baguio City, 303; Mountain Province, 261; and 571 in non-Cordillera provinces.
There were seven deaths recorded in Mountain Province, Benguet, Baguio, and non-Cordillera provinces.
Prior to the DOH national’s declaration of the “dengue alert”, the DOH in the region has begun a house-to-house information campaign in villages where there have been dengue cases.
“We are focusing on areas where there is a clustering of cases to be able to inform the residents and make them aware what they need to do and to prevent more cases,” DOH-Cordillera Administrative Region regional director, Dr. Amelita Pangilinan said in Filipino. **PNA
