Ifugao dads tell women to focus on positive change
KIANGAN, Ifugao – -Local officials challenged women here to focus on positive change that will work for the betterment of their families and the community.
Citing the Story of the Snake and the Caterpillar for them to ponder on, Governor Perdro Mayam-o asked the women to make change work for them like the caterpillar which changed from larvae to pupa then to a beautiful butterfly now soaring to greater heights. The government, he said, is giving much support and assistance for their cause which they should use to the fullest.
Mayor Joselito Guyguyon, in welcoming the different women groups during the Womens’ Day program, said the occasion was a reminder to them that they were created equal with men so what men can do, they also can.
He reminded everyone gathered to eliminate all forms of discrimination and abuse against women as he reiterated that the municipal government is always supportive to their cause.
Meanwhile, Phylis Anudon, president of the Kiangan Federation of Women’s Associations, said they are now empowered and more self-reliant than before.
With the support and assistance of the municipal government, she said they were able to implement projects. They also discovered that their advocacies for the molding and strengthening of the moral and spiritual values of the members are more important than infrastructure projects. They also established better camaraderie with all the members and as partners for community development. **JDP/DBC- PIA CAR, Ifugao
