Millions worth of MJ destroyed
Such value of marijuana plants and seedlings were eradicated in the provinces of Benguet and Kalinga during the week-long Simultaneous Anti-Criminality and Law Enforcement Operations (SACLEO) of the Cordillera police force..
On September 23, 2019, at Sitio Bacbacan, Brgy. Poblacion, Kibungan, Benguet, more or less 300 seedlings of marijuana plants worth Php12,000.00 were uprooted, while 1,000 fully grown marijuana plants worth Php200,000.00 were also destroyed in Balbalnag, Barangay Badeo, Kibungan, Benguet, the following day.
In Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet, 325 fully grown marijuana plants worth Php65,000.00 were uprooted on September 26, 2019 while 170 fully grown ones worth Php34,000 were destroyed on September 27, 2019.
For a total a total Dangerous Drug Board Value of (DDB) Php311,000.00 in the whole province.
Likewise, Kalinga PPO, together with members of the PDEA destroyed 80,000 fully grown marijuana plants and 30 kilos of dried marijuana leaves with a total worth of Php19,900,000.00.
While in Brgy. Babanoy, Tanudan, Kalinga, 3,000 fully grown marijuana plants worth Php600,000.00 were ruined on September 23, 2019 while a total of 77,000 fully grown marijuana plants and 30 kilos of dried marijuana leaves worth Php19,300,000 were also uprooted during the 3-day operation on September 25-27, 2019 in Brgy Bugnay and Tulgao West, Tinglayan, Kalinga through the implementation of “OPLAN GREEN PEARL DELTA 09-2019”.
During the entire marijuana eradication, no cultivators were arrested while marijuana plants were burned onsite.
On the other hand, two (2) bricks of marijuana hashish covered with milled coffee was left by the sender after he saw the personnel of JRS opening the box for checking before delivery on September 25, 2019 at the JRS Express Delivery, Bontoc, Mtn. Province.
22 suspects nabbed, MJ bricks seized
Twenty two drug suspects (3 of whom are minors) and 66 sachets of suspected shabu and 31 bricks of marijuana during the week’s SACLEO in this region.
A drug pusher identified as Arturo Apolinario Bullo, 46, and resident of Km. 4, Asin Road, Baguio City chose to fight it out with the operatives during a buy-bust operation in Banangan, Sablan, Benguet on the morning of September 29, 2019. Bullo was rushed to Benguet General Hospital after the armed encounter but was declared DOA by the attending physician. Evidence recovered at the crime scene were three empty shells for Cal. 9mm; three empty shells for cal. 45; one deformed slug from an unknown caliber; Php 3,000 marked money; one cal. 45 pistol with a magazine; one white motorcycle; one (1) helmet; and two (2) white transparent sachets containing suspected shabu.
Moreover, four individuals were caught in a checkpoint operation in Talaca, Agbannawag, Tabuk City, Kalinga on the evening of September 28, 2019. Suspects were identified as Joseph Caluma Saldana, and three minors, all residents of Antipolo, Rizal, who were aboard a PUJ when the same was flagged down by the police. As a result, 31 bricks of dried marijuana leaves and stalks worth Php3,720,000.00 were confiscated in their possession.
Likewise, six individuals were captured after they were caught in the act of having pot session along Avelino Street, Barangay Andres Bonifacio, Baguio City on September 24, 2019. They were identified as follows: Dan allen O. Abellera aka Danny, 37; Mario M. Cariaga; Ricardo S. Capilitan; Romeo M. Salting; Christoper C. Antero; and Maria S. Capilitan. Their arrest was made possible after one of their companions in the person of Jovan B Genove was caught in a buy bust operation and revealed the ongoing pot session. Confiscated from the possession of Genove were 10 small heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu, buy-bust money and assorted drug paraphernalia.
On the same day, drug pushers Jeson Aquino Pertubal, 29, and Jaime Asqata Apellido, 36, were arrested in separate operations. Pertubal was apprehended on the afternoon at Maharlika Livelihood Complex Parking Lot, Baguio City, where two sachets of suspected shabu, buy-bust money and drug paraphernalia were confiscated from his possession, while Apellido was arrested in Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet having 3 heat sealed sachets containing suspected shabu, one cellular phone and Php1,000 buy bust money.
Over the week’s SACLEO, Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) recorded the most number of arrested drug suspects as they captured 15 individuals, followed by Benguet Police Provincial Office had two and Abra PPO had one arrest.
Van with pork held
At around 5:30 PM of October 1, 2019, personnel of an Animal Quarantine Checkpoint of Benguet located along Salpang, Taloy Sur, Marcos Highway, Tuba, Benguet intercepted a container van loaded with frozen pork products from Angeles City, Pampanga. The vehicle was described as Fuso Ref. Van Truck, with license plate ABJ 9152 registered to Ms. Jennylyn S Manaloto of 20 Don Luis Panlilio St. Villadolores, Angeles City, Pampanga and driven by Ian Bie Manzano, 34, and resident of No.182 B Grape St. Angeles City, Pampanga.
The truck contained 883 kilos of frozen pork jowls and 1,980 kilos of frozen chicken quarter legs with complete travel documents. As per coordination with the Office of Governor Melchor Diclas, a memorandum was issued declaring a temporary ban on the entry of pigs, fresh and frozen pork, and pork products to the Province of Benguet due to the African Swine Fever (ASF).
The vehicle with its cargo was temporary held at the Animal Quarantine Checkpoint for further processing.**
