19 arrested in crackdown on illegal gambling

Police apprehended 10 in Baguio, one in Benguet, and 8 in Abra for involvement in illegal cockfighting, bookies, tupada and collecting of bets.
In Abra, 8 individuals were separately held while in the act of playing card games and cockfighting on the afternoon of March 13, 2020.
Gamblers identified as Erwin B. Belarmino, 39; Rogie S. Queza, 45; Armando B. Samson, 41; Rogelio D. Alcantara, 61; Nora B. Baniago, 48; and Juvelene G. Castillo, 32 were caught inside the house on Arellano St., Zone 3, Bangued, Abra while in the act of playing card games. Operating troops confiscated two (2) sets of playing cards and bet money amounting to Php1,900.00.
Meanwhile, Charlie Sequerra Ayco, 32 and Marnold Castillo Rafal, 35 were apprehended while engaged in cockfighting in Sitio Pudok, Barangay Cabuloan, Bangued, Abra on the same day. Recovered evidence were two (2) fighting cocks and Php790.00 bet money.
Last February, 10 were caught by the police. Bettors known as Donald Racraven Busto; Jose Pat-ongay Wasian; Virgilio Delfin Acosta; Emmanuel Rustia Sambajon; June Lamsis Rufino; Cesar Delfin; Denver Damaso Dalisdis; Kurt Carbonel Tabon; Rufo Isiah Kiwas Binay-an; and Lester Wadas Bangcawayan were caught in Amsing, Pacdal, Baguio City on the afternoon of February 14, 2020. They were apprehended after a concerned citizen informed the police of the ongoing illegal gambling known as tupada. Confiscated were four live fighting cocks, one dead fighting cock, one (1) guffle and five (5) helmets.
On the afternoon of the same day, a bet collector identified as Pedro Salongan Patras was held for collecting bet money in Palina, Tuba, Benguet. Confiscated from his possession were cash amounting to Php225.00, and other assorted gambling paraphernalia.
All arrested individuals were charged for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 known as Anti-Illegal Gambling.

7 arrested in drug operations
Result of one of the significant operation conducted is the capture of a High-Value Individual (HVI) identified as Jejomar Sumang Sumo, farmer, who was arrested at Viloria Street, Purok 4, Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga on March 11, 2020 after a search by virtue of a warrant was implemented. Recovered from his possession were one (1) blue sando bag containing suspected marijuana leaves and stalks, one (1) transparent plastic containing marijuana leaves and stalks, grounded marijuana leaves and stalks, small blue plastic containing grounded marijuana leaves weighing more or less 120 grams with a dangerous drug board value of Php14,400 and assorted drug paraphernalia.
In a recent operation conducted, Eduardo Oyando aka Edward Valdez, 29, was apprehended on the afternoon of March 13, 2020 in Purok 4, Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga. Confiscated from his possession was one (1) plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and buy-bust money.
Moreover, five persons involved in illegal drugs also landed in jail after they were separately arrested by the police.
Suspect Thawadi Sameh Jr Ruiz, 31, a resident of Dappig Purok 5, San Agustin, Isabela was arrested at Yakal Street, Poblacion North, Lagawe, Ifugao on March 11, 2020 while Bill Udquin Galvin was held in Purok 4, Better Living, Crystal Dale, Bakakeng Central, Baguio City on March 12, 2020.
Confiscated from Ruiz were Php100,000.00 boodle money and more or less 80 grams of suspected shabu while one (1) plastic sachet containing suspected shabu, buy-bust money, boodle money, drug paraphernalia, and two (2) cellphones were seized from Galvin.
Other arrested individuals were Whesly Dulawan Tobiagon, who was cornered in Guinaoang, Mankayan, Benguet; Ruben Abad Bergano , apprehended in Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet; while Jessie Marcos Paleyan , was caught in Upper Abatan, Buguias, Benguet.
Confiscated from Tobiagon were two (2) plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, Php1,000.00 buy-bust money and one (1) Mitsubishi Delica with plate number ZFD-903, while two (2) transparent sachets containing suspected shabu, buy-bust money and one (1) cellular phone were seized from Bergano. Paleyan also yielded two (2) transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and the buy-bust money.
The 7 suspects are now facing criminal charges for violations of R.A. 9165 otherwise known as the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
