BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC) in the Cordillera Administrative Region urges parents to constantly monitor the activities of their children online to ensure their safety from harmful content and practices.
Joyce Paysa of the RSCWC said that it is important for parents to guide their children toward safe digital practices and shield them from possible risks such as exploitation and exposure to inappropriate contents.
“I-emphasize tayo ti boundaries. Anya ba ti dapat nga i-share tayo online ken haan a dapat nga i-share online,” Paysa said during the recent Usapang PIA Radio Program.
(Let us emphasize the boundaries: what must be shared online and what must not be shared online.)
She said that parents must teach their children the appropriate do’s and don’ts when it comes to utilizing the digital media.
Paysa also noted the importance of involving their children in extracurricular activities and balancing their time effectively.
“Talaga a bantayan mismo dagiti parents, i-guide da dagiti uubing tapnu as they grow, saan a diyay cellphone [ti sangsangoen da],” she said.
(Parents must monitor and guide their children so that as they grow, they will not focus on their cellphones.)
She also called on the community members to be involved in protecting the children and reporting any concerns to the authorities.
“I-advocate tayo kuma diyay panagreport, importante gamin diyay. Nu awan ti report, awan ti aksyon,” Paysa emphasized.
(Let us advocate reporting, it is very important. If there is no report, there is no action.)
She said that any concerns can be reported to the Baguio City Hotline 911; PNP Women and Children Protection Center 09667255961 and 09197777377; Interagency Council Against Trafficking Hotline 1343; and Makabata Helpline 1383, 09193541383, or 09158022375.
The public may also report to the Barangay Violence Against Women and Children Desk, PNP stations, and city or municipal social welfare and development offices, she added.
National Children’s Month is observed every November, highlighting the campaign focused on ending online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC) and the proliferation of child sexual abuse or exploitation materials (CSAEM).
This year, it carries the theme “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!” **DEG-PIA CAR
