Recognizing the significant roles of rural women in shaping the agricultural landscape in the region, the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) awarded Plaques of Recognition and tokens of appreciation to the three regional winners and national finalists of the annual Search for Outstanding Rural Women or SORW for the past three years.
The outstanding rural women were Ms. Evelyn Duldulao of Poblacion, Luna, Apayao (FY2021); Ms. Jolenda Lomas-e of Kaleo, Barlig, Mtn. Province (FY2022), and Ms. Josephine Lay-os of Bangaan, Sagada, Mt. Province (FY2023).
DA-CAR Regional Executive Director Atty. Jennilyn M. Dawayan with OIC-Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations and Gender and Development Focal Person Ms. Arlene Sagayo led the awarding ceremony.
The outstanding rural women expressed their gratitude to all the government agencies including the DA-CAR for the utmost support and interventions that fueled the development of their agricultural activities through the years. In their sharing of experiences, the empowered women presented their continuing agricultural initiatives showcasing their relentless efforts towards agricultural development in their respective communities and organizations while making waves relative to women’s empowerment. They also shared the collaborative support and interventions received from various national government agencies related to agriculture.
Dir. Dawayan thanked the awardees for their inspirational stories and continued support of agriculture. She hopes that the awardees will continue to inspire and empower other women in their areas and sustain their agricultural activities.
The regional awarding is in line with the agency’s month-long celebration of the National Women’s Month celebration. It was held earlier today, March 25, during the regular Flag Raising Ceremony at the BPI Compound, Guisad, Baguio City.**Janice B. Agrifino
