BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will bring opportunities, solutions, and innovations to Baguio City during the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) and Handa Pilipinas sa Bagong Pilipinas Luzon Leg 2025 from August 7 to 9.
The Handa Pilipinas is an annual exposition that aims to raise public awareness and adoption of available DOST-developed technologies and innovations related to disaster risk reduction and management.
With the theme “Bida ang Handa: STI for a Smart and Resilient Luzon”, the three-day exposition will showcase DOST-developed technologies and innovation aligned to the thematic areas of disaster risk reduction and management; namely disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response, and disaster rehabilitation and recovery.
“Tapnu agbalin tayo nga smart, nu adda didigra, mas smart tayo and mas resilient. Maawis ti amin a makipaset,” Mark Genesis Laory, Science Research Specialist II of DOST-CAR said.
Laory added that the best practices of local government units in DRRM will also be showcased during the forums. Aside from the exhibits, training and forums on different natural disasters will also be conducted.
Coinciding with the Handa Pilipinas is the RSTW in CAR with the theme “Building Smart and Sustainable Communities.”
Supervising Science Research Specialist Patricia Suerte Felipe shared that the event will also showcase locally developed technologies, research initiatives, and DOST-assisted projects.
Among the focus are the smart agriculture and forum on mountain engineering technologies. Research and consortia will also exhibit technologies and new innovations that are homegrown in the Cordillera.
“Makikita ng public ano ba ang innovation ng CAR for the different sectors, for the different categories. Ang maganda po dun dahil Benguet is very strong, ang CAR is very strong on agriculture, meron pong focus especially sa Day 2 ng ating RSTW on smart agriculture,” Felipe said.
A techno bazaar and science and technology exhibit will also be open for the public. Micro, small, and medium enterprises, students, faculty, and the public are also encouraged to take part in the training and fora.
