In the last few weeks, I had forgotten about one of the best parts of living in a tropical country. When the sun always came to greet every person come 6 in the morning. And the heat made cold baths a bit bearable. With the consistent downpour, our clothes smell different. The streets had gotten more dangerous for motorcycles and people on the sidewalks. Thankfully, even the rain can get tired of sightseeing in Burnham Park. Although, we can all be thankful for all the stains of red (due to freedom of moma spit) being washed away. But we all know they will be stained red again.
With the sun returning to its rightful place, we can all go out with clothes that do not smell funny. And stop having to resort to the B side down under. Shoes can be worn without the worry of them taking an unexpected bath, along with the user.
With the “ber”months coming around the corner, the rains will surely return to where it came from once again. Then the cold, and the iconic songs that will end off another year. But, it will be a couple more weeks until those songs will dominate the sounds of this city.
Until then, we can enjoy the sun, wear our best clothes and look our best when going out. For all that had been severely affected by the recent storms, a time to recover, for others, a time to help The sun shines once again, then so will human empathy. As the flag can wave freely along the Baguio wind once again, it can proudly witness the view of bayanihan in full swing– helping those who are down, and those in need.
“One nation under God” is a nice phrase. Through thick and thin, we are one nation, fellow compatriots, under one power. We all have what makes us unique to one another, and though that may be, we are one and the same.
The storm has passed, but there will be more. Whether one will come from the south or from the east, whether it be our southern regions that suffer, or the neighboring countries, bayanihan knows no borders. Recovering together and moving forward with each other, then a bountiful future will surely await us. Though we are in the midst of recovering, that same future will always wait for us, Until we are all ready and we are all together. The sun will shine once again, and we’ll find our way forward through the thinning fog. As a nation united under one power.**
