BAGUIO CITY – The month of March teems with activities as the city celebrates the 2025 National Women’s Month with the theme: “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) spearheads the activities in coordination with other offices including the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Committee on Social Services, Women and Urban Poor with Councilor Elmer Datuin as chair.
Starting March 1, tarpaulins bannering the women’s month celebration shall be hung by the Baguio City Jail Personnel in participating government offices, with the kick-off and launching activities during the city hall flag raising ceremonies on March 3.
For the whole month of March, women may go to any of the 16 health district service centers for cervical screening and breast examination. These health examinations are done only on special schedules during the other months.
Basic digital learnings are conducted at the city library on a certain schedule, according to Outstanding Librarian Easter Pablo.
On March 5, Health and Beauty care are offered to female Persons deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the city jail female dorm while the venue for a training on entrepreneurship shall be arranged for women with disability on March 7 by the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO).
On March 7, 14, 21 and 28; all Fridays of the month, women are enjoined to wear purple or an accent of shades of purple; violet, lilac, lavender or mauve which from historical events symbolize courage, creativity, wisdom, power and rights for women.
On March 8, a program honoring the chosen Outstanding Women Leaders (OWLs) shall be done at the Baguio Cultural and Convention center, followed by a parade along the main thoroughfares, a service caravan at Malcolm Square and a Concert at the Park.
On March 12, a mental health seminar for women PDLs shall be conducted by the city jail personnel as the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Station 6 gather different groups for an eco-walk within the vicinity of Bayan Park, Aurora Hill.
On March 14, a forum on understanding gender-based violence is scheduled for male employees of the TTMD-City Engineers Office, and the POSD; with a Gender and Development (GAD) orientation to Baguio City Jail Male Personnel on March 18.
Young mothers are also invited to women’s health forum at the district clinics on March 17-21; and 24-28. They may get in touch with their local health practitioners for the details.
Women from districts 2, 3, 12 and 13 shall be trained on Leadership and Participation through the CSWDO and KALIPI women’s group, on March 21 with a search for Huwarang Ina (Outstanding Mother) being done through BCPO Station 7 on March 22.
The PDAO conducts a leadership training for Women with Disability on March 24; and a Social Justice forum for Women with Disability and their partners on March 26.
On March 25, women from districts 4, 14, 8 and 16 conduct a district level walk with plogging, and social enhancement through the CSWDO and KALIPI as districts 5 and 15 women shall undergo a social wellness training on March 26, with the venue still being arranged.
On the second week of March, the barangays will have their Woman Officer for a Day (WOFAD).
Other activities may still be calendared through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) with CSWDO head Liza Bulayungan, or assistant head Cynthia Langagan. ** jgfianza
