BAGUIO CITY – The Police Regional Office-Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO-CAR) on Monday cautioned the public anew when swimming to beat the scorching heat.
This, after the Tuba municipal police office reported a drowning incident at Mangi Hydro river in the village of Nangalisan on Maundy Thursday.
The victim was declared dead on arrival at a hospital here.
Swimming at the river was prohibited by the local government to prevent similar incidents.
“Ingat parati. Hindi dapat nag-iinom ng alak tapos lulusong sa tubig. Bantayan natin ang mga bata at huwag hayaan na sila lang ang nagsi-swimming (Always be careful. Do not drink and go swimming. Do not leave the children to swim on their own),” Carolina Lacuata, head of the PRO-CAR information office, said in a statement Monday.
Lacuata said they are collating information, but has advised local police offices to strengthen dissemination of advisories on safety precautions when going swimming in pools, rivers and even beaches outside the region.
“We know that many of our people from the region are fond of going to beaches or where there are bodies of water. We urge them to ensure their personal and their family’s safety so that the fun and enjoyment of the families will not end in tragedy,” she added. **Liza Agoot
