By Atty. Antonio P. Pekas

There was this group I joined when I was still based in Metro Manila. Their activities were for the members’ prosperity or for their economic well- being. Some of the things they advocated were giving donations and tithing.
We all know about these but not so many appreciate how these work for our personal benefit.
Both end up in helping others in need and so they come within the meaning of our favorite word “service”. As the event I am to talk about will show, the three words – Leadership, Friendship and Service— have been well drummed into our brains. So we still live by these somehow. In our individual ways.
But still I was surprised when Brod. Mario Sopeña, out of the blue, messaged me a few days ago, “Brother g’morning can you provide a G cash number? I want to help a bit.” That is pure service from one’s core.
Whatever money that will come in from the effort it will be a big help. In two months, it will be three years to the dawn when I was rushed to the hospital. I could not breathe due to kidney and heart failure. While I survived, I became a veteran of medical procedures particularly blood tests and the like, and are still ongoing.
These totally mothballed my law practice which will be first order of the day to revive if I will ever become strong enough to thrive in it again.
Luckily, my community newspaper is still alive and ongoing no matter what. But it is more of a social service effort than a business.
The more important thing though are the deep effects of tithing or giving of donations which for so many go unnoticed. The end results of these are good karma or suerte. These can be in the form of physical or material things or pure luck such as a much better life. Including those of members of the family and other close relations.
I found this out as you must have also and so I made it a part of my regular activities to give donations for worthy activities or causes. Yes, we all should have advocacies to regularly donate to or support. Whatever we give are reciprocated a million ways. So as I accept and greatly appreciate your valuable donations I am also giving for other worthy causes. When you open your hand to give, it is also opened to accept.
I am already accepting right now. Having the energy to write this second article of mine since coming out from the hospital the other week is good enough as I continue to recover and be able to do more.
As we continue to be with each other in the spirit of service, friendship and leadership.
Thanks to everyone.**
