The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) successfully apprehended two individuals involved in illegal possession and discharge of firearms, preventing potential harm to the public through prompt and decisive action.
On February 28, 2026, at Padre Zamora, Baguio City, officers from Police Station 2 responded to a report regarding a man discharging a firearm inside his compound. The suspect, a 33-year-old male, reported by witnesses, was allegedly intoxicated and provoked a fight with passersby. He was arrested on-site by responding personnel and recovered a 9mm pistol with one magazine containing 14 live ammunitions.
A separate incident occurred on March 1, 2026, an active female PNP member, who was about to cross T. Alonzo Street, when the suspect, a 29-year-old male armed with a knife, grabbed her issued firearm and fled toward Lower Magsaysay Avenue. The suspect was immediately pursued by other PNP personnel who saw the incident. Upon reaching Baguio Central University, the
suspect discharged the firearm downward, sustaining a self-inflicted wound on his left hip. He was promptly transported to Baguio General Hospital Medical Center for treatment while the recovered firearm is now at Police Station 7 for proper documentation.
Both suspects were subjected to inquest proceedings and presently facing charges of Illegal Possession and Discharge of Firearms and Direct Assault and Illegal Discharge of Firearm, respectively.
BCPO City Director, PCOL RUEL D TAGEL, commended the swift and professional response of the officers, noting that rapid action combined with community vigilance prevented further escalation and safeguarded public safety.**
