Bontoc, Mtn. Province – A bird that was caught in the neighborhood of Barangay Demang, Sadanga, this province, has been set free by foresters from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office last April 16, 2026 in Sitio Bagwang, Poblacion, Sadanga, this province.
The wild bird specie lis ocally referred to as “par-ong” and identified as the Black Crown Night Heron with scientific name Nycticorax nycticorax under family Ardeidae.
Report said that a local resident, Letty Chinalpan, caught the bird last April 10, 2026 and informed the Municipal Environment and Resources office (MENRO) and with the assistance of Christina Chakiwag and Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer – Sabangan assigned in the area with the assistance of the Municipal Police Sation personnel caused the turn-over of the bird to the PENRO for appropriate care and management.
The following day, the bird was referred to the Provincial Veterinary Office for inspection and assessment to determine its health condition. Findings reportedly indicated no injuries with recommendation for its release.
So, the personnel of the PENRO, Adam Paleyan and Venus Bascos with this writer, immediately brought the bird to a forested area in Sitio Bagwang, Poblacion, Sadanga and released it at exactly 9:35 in the morning. The bird was seen then to immediately flow to the distant trees.
Bird watching has gained local and tourist enthusiasts in the province. Many different kinds of birds thrive in the various municipalities of the province, locally grown or migratory.
Palayen informed this writer that the wildlife bird Heron is a migratory bird that may have adapted to the local environment.
Meanwhile, the wide spread forest fires in various communities around the province is causing disgust and disappointment to most people.
Vice Governor Jet Dominguez issued a message n the social media urging all to refrain from causing forest fires.
“I am calling on everyone to act with responsibility and care. Let us stop the practices that harm our land and start protecting what sustains us”, is the plea of Vice Gov. Dominguez
