After enjoying the sun for a few months, typhoon season is here to bring us back to reality. After the ghost project scandals last year, the series of protests and anger has fizzled out. This simply cannot be. As we start to forget about how our politicians have left the people defenseless, the typhoons will simply remind us.
There needs a renewed effort to push the people in power towards accountability. When the issue is again swept under the rug, it is the ordinary people that suffer from such corruption. And the cycle goes on.
In the coming typhoon season, the deaths reported on the news will not be of the wealthy nor their children. Floods will not reach them in their penthouses, mansions, or their vacation manors in Europe. The reported deaths will be of those who live in shanty houses being destroyed by strong currents and their children who got overpowered by the waves.
It will be them who will have to rebuild what they have built this year. Unable to cross the threshold of living in comfort.
So let us remember all the wrongs done; that most of the people in power do not deserve to be there. And again, light a fire inside us. **
