By Atty. Antonio P. Pekas

He came to the office to have something published. One of those deeds or legal documents the law requires to be published in a newspaper of general circulation in order to have legal effect.
He was so lively. He is about 5 years younger than I am. And then we found out we have the same university alma mater. And we belonged to rival fraternities. The biggest ones in campus during our time. He is a member of the Beta Sigma while I am an APO (Alpha Phi Omega). Despite that, I ended up inviting him to lunch next time as hjs liveliness was so infectious.
We were laughing recalling our college years. More so when I found out we both suffered heart failures. He went through it three times. Yet there he was, laughing as if he had no health challenges to hurdle.
When he found out I went through heart and kidney failures twice, he said, “it is all in the mind.” Then he chuckled.
So, I said, “you are my idol.” How can you be so lively. Then he said it again, “it‘s all in the mind.” Taken by that very positive attitude, I said, “yes! It is all in the mind, as I raised my fist.”
Our commonality include the fact we ow have to take in fistfuls of pills costing thousands of pesos, twice or thrice daily. His advantages is he is younger and a lot stronger physically having been a college varsity soccer player and he plays up to now. As he related in a jolly way, sometimes even in the rain.
Next time I will relate to him my advantage. I am a fanatic vegetarian and I do my yoga exercises everyday. Along with yoga meditation, they keep me going, even with all the illnesses I had gone through the past years, and still going through some of them now. And I have to go through dialysis sessions 3X a week now,
Overall though, life is good. All the sufferings I went through, and still going through, are nothing but bay-back or payments for all the bad karma I accumulated for sins or life mistakes committed in past years, if not past lives.
Yes, all the troubles, the pain and inconveniences are resulting in the lightening up of my karmic load. But while am better now, I hope to get even better as the days go by.
As that guy said, “it’s all in the mind.”**
