As the rains and cold sweep over us, we can expect common sickness to run rampant. Adding into an already dire problem in the dwindling amount of foods in the fridge, the worries for most will only add up as these series of rains continue. This has always been the case for the common Filipinos. Amidst times of heavy rains, the problems for the ordinary Filipino gets doubled.
The vendor must worry about putting up extra tarpaulins to cover up her shop. The jeepney drivers must push through the cold to earn what they can in times where students have their classes suspended. Each day when politicians get to ride in their private cars and escape from the storm, most Filipinos rush to jeepneys in drenched clothes.
Politicians don’t experience what most Filipinos are going through right now. None of them are waiting under the rain for a jeepney that might never come. As we see our fellow Filipinos continue to struggle in these times, let us remember that no clean clothed politician is by our side during our times of needs. They are stuck inside their mansions while their constituents suffer from shambled shelters.
Based on recent news, some lawmakers have even been confirmed to have left the country. Probably off to find a sunny beach to relax in. This selfish behavior is a tragedy in itself. One that keeps repeating itself. Time and time again, as typhoons finish doing their work in the country, only then will they pop up with their ayudas. Seemingly content to “buy” their way back into the peoples’ hearts.
Don’t practice the acts of forgiveness to such people. Mere ayudas do not match up to the worth of genuine actions done by leaders to help their people.
After all these times of being duped, it is time we realize the frauds in our governments. When times get tough, they do not stand with their people but scurry off somewhere. Call out these so called “leaders” who abandoned their constituents. And get them off from their high and mighty chairs.
Let us bring attention to the other tragedies that befall the people. The continuous abandonment from our “leaders”. Apart from the cold and heavy rains, this is a continuous disease that needs removal immediately. **
