LAGAWE, IFUGAO- – Why do you think there is a compelling reason to conduct the yearly Provincial Local Legislator’s Day of Ifugao in Alfonso Lista? This is also a question often asked in the past.
“As much as we are happy to welcome all legislators of the province in this very Important occasion, I am absolutely delighted to announce Alfonso Lista’s hosting because they will enjoy the town’s warm hospitality,” Vice Mayor Agapito Dominguez Jr., told the ZigZag Weekly.
“Truly, we are carrying forward the message of trust and strong sense of community that Alfonso Lista represented while elevating the town further, creating an image where those tasked to govern can flourish, legislators find solace,” he added.
Dominguez said this distinction not just for the Alfonso Lista Sangguniang Bayan where he serves as presiding officer but for the town’s 38,000 inhabitants who have remained committed to pursuing the municipal government’s development goals.
Alfonso Lista, an economic hub of Ifugao, has enjoyed tremendous change in infrastructure development in recent years.
The one-day event is an incredibly valuable and focused gathering of board members, vice mayors, councilors and all others who are exercising legislative functions in the barangay council and Sangguniang Kabataan (youth councl).
Program events pull together the top minds and leaders of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the highest legislative body in Ifugao and said to be influential and all powerful. It helps greatly in the fund-sourcing process of vital projects in the barangay level, the lifeblood of politicians during elections.
“It would be very helpful to engage with each other during this activity. We shall find a way for better results in improving the lives of the people,” Board Member Peter Bunnag said.
Bunnag explains the rationale of feeling the pulses of other lawmakers. “Listen to their sentiments when you want to connect with others,” he tells councilors of Banaue and Mayoyao.
Bunnag stressed that collective efforts were required to address current challenges. Pointing out that problems in a town at the second district could affect many others in other district, he underscored the importance of proactive engagement.
It’s hard not to emphasize a few more important things about the historic staging of the event in the popular corn-raising town of Alfonso Lista. It is one of the fast-emerging municipalities in Northern Luzon. It provides the perfect environment for individuals and families to thrive.
