LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) — The La Trinidad Water District (LTWD) is stepping up measures to guard the municipality’s water supply against the expected prolonged dry spell.
With severe El Niño weather predicted to affect Benguet from November through early 2027, the LTWD is preparing rotational supply schedules, pipe leak repairs, and delivery trucks to ensure every family receives adequate water.
La Trinidad Water District General Manager Engr. Oliver Taule shared that the utility is finalizing rotational supply schedules across its service areas to guarantee fair water distribution for every family during the upcoming El Niño.
“Ti first nga aramiden mi no kumaro daytoy El Nino ket jay nay rotational water distribution. Jay second, ag pro-procure kami ti additional materials,” hesaid. (The first thing we will do if this El Niño gets worse is to implement rotational water distribution. Second, we will procure additional materials.)
Taule added that they will take precautionary measures such as detecting and repairing pipe leaks. He also assured residents that water delivery trucks are on standby for areas that cannot be reached by the rotational supply.
“Jay daduma nga haan mi maserve an, kaspangarigan ket adda ti naka standby nga two nga delivery truck tayo,” he added. (For other areas we cannot reach, for example, we have two delivery trucks on standby.)
The general manager further explained that communities currently receiving a continuous 24-hour supply will undergo water rationing so that excess water can be redirected to other neighborhoods.
He said that the district is developing additional water sources, which they hope to complete and utilize in time for the peak dry months.
“Adda ti magde-develop mga additional source ngem haan mi nga malpas daytoy, hopefully ah ket malpas mi anginggana ti January or February at least mausar tayo pay lang,” Taule said. (Right now, we are developing additional sources, though we cannot finish them right away. Hopefully, we can complete them by January or February so we can start using them.)
He also urged consumers to practice water conservation as El Niño approaches.
“I-monitor da met koma dagitoy pipes da, no adda ti leaks koma ket repairen da, haan da nga baybay-an, haan gapo kaya da agbayad, baybay- an da ag belbeleng jay danum,” he emphasized. (Residents should monitor their household pipes and repair leaks immediately instead of ignoring them. Just because they can afford the bill does not mean they should let water overflow and go to waste.)
He also advised consumers to secure their own tanks and drums for household water storage. **JDP/CVBT-PIA CAR w/ GIP Jevie Caycayen
