Aboitiz Renewables, Inc., the renewable energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower), won the Geospatial and Reality Modeling category at Bentley Systems’ 2026 Year in Infrastructure Awards for GeoShield, its A.I.-driven system that identifies landslide risks to help keep critical infrastructure operating safely.
Over 300 projects from organizations in 53 countries were nominated for this year’s awards. Winners were chosen across 12 categories by a panel of independent judges during the Bentley Systems 2026 Year in Infrastructure Event in Singapore.
GeoShield uses digital twins, electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) to build a dynamic virtual replica of the terrain where a facility is located. High-resolution LiDAR scans capture the surface, while ERT data shows conditions beneath it. The A.I.-powered system monitors this terrain data periodically to identify landslide risks, allowing engineers to detect geohazards early and act before operations are disrupted.
The system is currently deployed in Aboitiz Renewables’ run-of-river hydropower plants, where it monitors terrain conditions and flags landslide risks before they interrupt operations.
“Any facility built on or near sloped terrain faces landslide risk, regardless of the technology it runs on,” said Aboitiz Renewables Chief Operating Officer Alexander B. Coo. “GeoShield gives engineers an early view of those risks so they can act before they become disruptions. “ The same approach can be applied by other operators and infrastructure owners managing assets in similar conditions.”
GeoShield currently integrates earthquake-induced risks into its landslide simulations. Further development will allow it to incorporate additional geohazard data, widening the range of risks it can address and strengthening the resilience of Aboitiz Renewables’ assets.
“Early identification protects more than equipment,” Coo added. “When a risk is found early, there is time to prepare, and that matters to the people who live and work near these sites. We hope GeoShield encourages more organizations to look at how data and A.I. can make infrastructure safer.”
The Year in Infrastructure Awards are presented by Bentley Systems, an infrastructure engineering software company founded in 1984. Its software is used by engineering firms and owner-operators worldwide to design, build, and operate infrastructure for transportation, water, energy, and cities, and the awards have recognized infrastructure projects for more than 20 years.

About AboitizPower
Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) is the holding company for the Aboitiz Group’s investments in power generation, distribution, and retail electricity services. Guided by its vision and higher purpose, the company actively contributes toward uplifting the lives of the Filipino people and achieving a better world.
The company is one of the largest power producers in the Philippines, with a balanced portfolio of assets located across the country. It is a major producer of renewable energy, with several hydroelectric, geothermal, and solar power generation facilities. It also has thermal power plants in its generation portfolio to support the country’s baseload and peak energy demands.
AboitizPower also owns distribution utilities that operate in high-growth areas in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, including the country’s second and third-largest private utilities.
In step with the country’s ambitions for its energy mix, AboitizPower aims to grow its portfolio of generation assets with renewables and selected baseload builds. The Company seeks to increase its renewables group’s assets (collectively called Cleanergy) significantly by 2030 from indigenous energy sources such as solar, hydro, geothermal, and wind. To date, AboitizPower, together with its partners, offers the largest renewable energy portfolio in the Philippines based on installed capacity under its operational control.
