Who will vote to award the City Market redevelopment to SM? Trying to divine how the councilors will vote turned out to be interesting. It stimulated the mind to come out with appropriate descriptions.
“Pera pera lang ‘yan”, repeatedly surfaced. Meaning, he or she will sell himself to the devil if the price is right. Never mind one’s political future or legacy or those of one’s progeny.
Related to that is the word ‘bagman.’ He carries somebody’s bag where influencers will put the bribe money as he passes by. Accordingly, some councilors will vote going by the thickness or the weight.
But there are those who deserved the late Arsenio Lacson’s bull’s eye description of a young Manila lawyer—’so young, so bright and so corrupt.’
Then there is one who stands out. “He is a prominent RAM member. Verify the position of the wife and you would know.”
Surprisingly, some young guns were considered principled. They have some future in Baguio’s politics. Where voters are supposed to be more discerning.
In sum, it appears getting a NO vote is an uphill battle. So work harder. And a fallback position like the filing of a good case in court should come in handy. It ain’t over, ‘til it’s over.
Well, we are living in interesting times.**
