BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) said Friday that it will deploy around 600 uniformed and plainclothes personnel to secure various activities on Sunday, including anti-corruption rallies.
“There will be additional police personnel who will attend to traffic management, anti-riot operations, plainclothes intelligence monitoring, and other security tasks to ensure peace and order for both participants and the general public,” BCPO information officer Maj. Marcy Grace Marron said in a phone interview.
Marron confirmed that a rally permit was granted to Liberal Youth Baguio-Benguet, which will march from the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center grounds to People’s Park via Harrison Road.
“The permit provided is up to 12 noon only and it is expected that the proponents who signed the undertaking will abide by the conditions,” Marron said.
The rally will coincide with other events, including the Session Road closure for September as part of the city’s charter anniversary, Baguio-Benguet Medical Society unity walk from Cathedral Church to Harrison Road, and the “Hari ng Ahon” bicycle challenge.
Despite the packed schedule, Marron expressed confidence that the events would proceed peacefully.
“We know that the people of Baguio are peace-loving and only want to express themselves in rallies, not create trouble,” she said. **Liza Agoot
