BAGUIO CITY – Some PhP409 million worth of projects covering eight projects are expected to start this October, city administrator Bonifacio dela Peña said on Tuesday.
With the projects delayed due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, dela Peña said that works are ready to proceed as construction restrictions have been lifted.
Included is the PhP45-million extension of the big grandstand of the Baguio Athletic Bowl, which was already inaugurated last March 13 before the imposition of the community lockdown.
Dela Peña said that works will include the addition of 500 seats to the current 1,100.
Offices will also be installed under the extension that will cater to athletes and locally accredited sports associations like gyms, fitness centers, and offices.
Four 50-foot light towers will also be erected to allow the staging of sports events at night.
Another project is the PhP93-million state-of-the-art drainage system that is expected to solve the flooding at Burnham Park.
Dela Peña said this project will connect the city’s main drainage system at Magsaysay to the Balili River.
Other projects are the sidewalk at Gov. Pack Road worth PhP14 million; PhP26 million sidewalk at Leonard Wood Road; PhP93 million for the expansion of Marcos Highway; and PhP45 million for the expansion of Naguilian Road.
Barangay halls with basketball courts that can also serve as evacuation centers will be established in Barangays Bakakeng Central and Quirino Hill for PhP56 million and PhP37 million, respectively.
“Sabay sabay na ‘yang implementation (The project implementation will start simultaneously),” he said.
The PhP409-million funding for the eight projects will come from the savings of the local government unit.
He added that two other major projects inside the Baguio Athletic Bowl worth some PhP544 million are expected to be bidded out next month and implemented immediately after. **By Pigeon Lobien , PNA
