LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – On the second week of the resumption of its regular sessions, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Benguet led by Vice Governor Ericson “Tagel” Felipe gave favorable review to the suicide prevention ordinance of Tuba.
A favorable review from the SP means the municipal government may implement the ordinance.
Passed on Dec. 12, 2024, Ordinance 526 s. 2024 of Tuba institutionalized the municipality’s suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention program.
The ordinance defines intervention as procedures to follow in assisting individuals who have attempted suicide and individuals at risk of suicide; postvention are activities and procedures given to survivors of a suicide episode or an aftermath of a death by suicide; and prevention are activities and procedures given to individuals in the community to increase resilience that would prevent suicide attempts.
The ordinance creates a Suicidal Risk Reduction Management Team and Suicide Management Team to come up with “lifeline programs” to address suicide cases in the municipality.
One of the offices tasked to implement the ordinance is the Municipal Health Services Office, which is tasked to formulate suicide prevention, intervention, and prevention protocol.**
