The Baguio City Council has approved on third and final reading Ordinance 80-2025 authorizing a feasibility study for the establishment of a city hospital to ensure accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services for residents.
Under the newly approved ordinance principally authored by Councilor Elmer Datuin, he City Planning Development and Sustainability Office (CPDSO), in coordination with the City Health Services Office (CHSO) and the Local Finance Committee (LFC), will lead the feasibility study for the proposed city hospital. The CPDSO may also engage external consultants or partner institutions to ensure a thorough and technically sound evaluation.
The study is mandated to cover multiple areas including an assessment of current healthcare needs in Baguio City, analysis of patient demographics and hospital usage patterns, identification of potential sites for the hospital, and financial projections for construction, equipment, operations, and staffing.
Additionally, the study will evaluate the proposed organizational and administrative structure, legal and regulatory requirements, and possible funding sources and partnership models.
Funding for the feasibility study will be provided by the LFC. The results of the study will serve as a foundation for the city government to make informed decisions regarding the establishment of a city hospital that addresses the healthcare needs of Baguio residents.
The ordinance has been transmitted to Mayor Benjamin Magalong for signing before its implementation. **Jordan G. Habbiling
