We hold a special reverence for our dearly departed. Along with our families, we honor our dead and dedicate time for them. While each family has their own special ones, there are a few exceptions, that we as a nation, collectively mourn. Our national heroes, the people who sacrificed and whose lives play a part in our nation’s existence.
We are a pretty superstitious folk. Seemingly in every province there is a certain belief or certain stories that hold a special place in the heads and hearts of the people. Things of spirit and such, they have a place in the many cultures of this country.
With all the beliefs and culture around superstition and spirits and such, it is a wonder some of us do not get ashamed of our actions behind closed doors. We are supposed to believe that even the dead may be watching us, supporting us from the afterlife or shaking their heads at some of our actions.
With all these corruption around us, the theft of billions and more, there is no shame among others. No shame at what our past saints may think. There is not even a single drop of shame among the billions stolen, Filipino lives shattered again and again, the same people they share a land, culture, and language with.
While we honor the loved ones of our families, it is unfortunate that the days dedicated for all our departed, our national heroes can only look on with disappointment. As we go back to our provinces and spend time with our families honor our past family members, it is a shame that not all of the dead can rejoice. In these days, some of the dead can only wail from the afterlife, hoping someone on the other side would hear the call to fight. Should it rain, we can only receive in shame the tears of the departed heroes, for even allowing all these to happen. **
