LAGAWE, IFUGAO – – A tree-planting activity on June 19 at Sto. Domingo Elementary School in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Alfonso Lista, Ifugao shall kick-off projects of environmental advocates in this part of the province for the remaining months of 2025.
Officers and members of Tree Savers Club (TSC) are set to plant native tree seedlings at key portions of the school to raise awareness and consciousness of the importance of the regreening program.
“We do want to help the government’s reforestation campaign. Keeping up on our program’s schedules is essential for understanding the challenges of what merely the task are called for,” TSC chairman Victor Sampayan said.
Thus, on this day, environmental advocates are once more to find a real purpose in life. In Alfonso Lista, they are back.
“More than ever, NGOs like the TSC must do its part to help the national government in saving the environment,” he added.
Massive tree-planting efforts are called for to undercut the problem on illegal logging and “kaingin” (slash and burn farming). Achieving this increasingly unreachable dream is definitely a major concern. Progress can only be made with a sectoral-based project as this one. You’ll find it easier to get folks on the same page. In the coming years, villagers are surely getting bundles of joy.
The TSC has stressed the significance of its projects as they contribute to disaster risk reduction, such as the mitigation of flooding and protection of communities.
With this project, the TSC and other sponsors hope to feel a distinct need for pushing their green commitment.
Several stakeholders, such as educators, farmers and barangay council and Sangguniang Kabataan officials still have many concerns about flooding, landslide, soil erosion and climate change. They perceive it to be burdensome, especially to their health and safety.
When partners come together to advance the cause of environmental protection, we certainly can go forward and help create safer communities for present and succeeding generations.
The forthcoming activity is the most welcome development, especially in the CAR, in addressing issues on the environment. This activity, also backed by the Sto. Domingo Barangay Council, led by Punong Barangay Jovito “Jun” Valenzuela and Tam-an Banaue Multipurpose Cooperative, is a testament to the enduring partnership of well-meaning organizations, as they work together towards fulfilling a common vision of a more sustainable and resilient community.
“Re-conceptualizing regreening project is a pivotal component of safeguarding the environment, in the spirit of the Arbor Day law, toward guaranteeing a secure future for those we truly hold dear,” says Anthony Araos. He is the former TSC chairman.
Expect then the much-needed shift in the vision behind these trees: A school surrounded by green trees, a bastion of young and promising talents. This is an offshoot of right thinking. Its part of TSC’s critical development goals. One such objective is to continue supporting the government’s National Greening Program (NGP) by venturing into the production of seedlings for fruit-bearing trees. **By Anthony A. Araos
