Gas prices. The same topic has dominated the headlines. All over social media, people have posted ridiculous looking prices of gas, diesel, etc. It even has come to the point that the prices are teetering towards the 100 peso range.
The little that our drivers already earn will continue to dwindle. Barely breaking even would become the norm for them at this rate.
Talking to a taxi driver about it just seemed to open the floodgate of frustrations. It would even be expected if less and less taxi drivers take to the road and instead find an alternative way to survive.
The pressure on the ordinary Filipinos will keep on piling up. The standards of living for the masses will continue to nosedive from an already unfortunate position.
Even the 5 peso subsidy for fuel is not enough. The PUV drivers will want for more. But the government will never give the amount that would satisfy our drivers.
Regardless, the Filipino will persevere for the sake of his family. Obligations will drive him to push forward. That value has never been respected by those above. It is exploited till the hard-working Filipinos collapse of exhaustion.
Aspire for change. Because to remain passive despite the sufferings of your fellow countrymen is to be rendered guilty, the same as those who stole from them. Passivity only cements the existing broken system.
Someone has to stand up for those that are battered. The feeling of wanting to change this nation fester within people. We can only feel empathy after so long. Anyone can feel bad for those that have suffered, but what is really needed is someone to take action. **
