BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA) — The provincial local government unit of Mountain Province, through the Provincial Health Office, continues to promote mental wellness in the workplace.
Stating that it recognizes caring for the mind as essential to sustaining a healthy and productive workforce, the PHO conducted a seminar for PLGU employees on Oct. 9, 2025 themed, “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.”
This was aimed to raise awareness about the importance of mental health, especially in times of stress and crisis. It also emphasized the value of workplace well-being which enhances focus, productivity, and access to support services for employees.
Dr. Steven G. Pasayan, Medical Officer at the PHO, led a discussion on stress management, highlighting how employees can cope with daily work pressures and emotional challenges.
Participants also engaged in therapeutic dance exercises including Tae Bo and Zumba, led by Marcelina Ongan.
“Kahit stressed ka sa trabaho, pwede mong ma-refresh yung mind mo,” Pasayan said, as he also emphasized the need to take breaks, and care for one’s mental well-being.
Provincial Human Resource Management Officer Leonila Milagrose F. Malla-ao urged employees to participate in wellness programs, noting that they nurture both the body and the mind.
“You do not only engage the muscles or internal organs, but also the mind. You get to be sharp and focused,” she said.
The activity was also in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month this October and World Mental Health Awareness Day on Oct.10.
In the Philippines, October is recognized as National Mental Health Month, as declared under Proclamation No. 452, s. 1994, encouraging nationwide initiatives that highlight the importance of mental wellness.
World Mental Health Day, meanwhile, was first established in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health. The global observance seeks to promote mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against social stigma. **JDP/VJLT/CKI – PIA-CAR, Mountain Province
