Last month the hand-me-down iPhone I was using developed some problems such as its weak battery. While I felt a bit down because its size was the right one, not so big and not so small, I took it positively since I could not read books on its relatively small screen. The result, a bigger phone. One where I can read novels. Practically any book.
You can now practically download any book from the internet. In case you did not know, there is an APP called ANY BOOKS. It is like Pirate Bay where you can steal for free any movie, practically. It was created by somebody who cared for the welfare of mankind. Because of him, it is not anymore just the moneyed who can watch any movie they wanted.
Perhaps that pirate somehow hacked the data bases of the movie companies who are wallowing in gazillions of dollars and had stolen all the great movies ever made. Then he was giving it for free through his Pirate Bay.
Then I learned that a court order was issued against him to stop giving away the movies for those are, in legalese, intellectual property. But the owners of those movies have so much money they don’t even know how to spend it. And the last time I looked it was a Christian virtue to share your excess to the less fortunate.
The court also ordered him to pay a big amount, a billion dollars, I think, to the owners of the movies.
So I thought it was the end of Pirate Bay. How wrong I was, fortunately. The kids can still download movies from Pirate Bay. How can we so blessed?
Now there is ANY BOOKS. It is the Pirate Bay of books. Any books.
You know these APPs or their creators are proofs that there is God. So don’t be an atheist. There are blessings or proofs of God everywhere.
I found this out the other Saturday. The rain was pouring like hell and we didn’t care to load our satellite TV because its signal disappears during heavy rains. Anyway our broadband was OK so we would not feel so isolated in our home on the mountain even if the fog was thick we could not sees anything around, which had been going for days.
Well, there was the radio but the internet was much better. You can access anything.
Then the unthinkable happened. Our broadband or wifi machine conked out. Aside from cursing Globe to high heavens, we could not do anything else.
Luckily everybody had downloaded books from the internet earlier through ANY BOOKS. So with the radio on everybody curled in bed, cellphone in hand, deeply absorbed with whatever each one was reading.
Yes, God bless the creator of ANYBOOKS.
Everyone of us read…. up to sawa.
So I thought that my problem of acquiring the good books I wanted to read was finally solved and free at that. Huh!
Then I found out that the problem was still there. I still have to frequent second hand book shops for I cannot afford to buy new books. They are beyond my means. If I read two books a month then I wound have to spend the value of about a half cavan of rice. I guess that would be so much. The answer, second hand books.
Why not ANY BOOKS? In that one week of continuous reading on the cellphone, as the rain continuously poured, my eyes ached because of the glare. I adjusted the glare to the barest minimum but my eyes would still be painful after reading for hours. But perhaps it was because I overdid the reading, or because I am not young anymore.
I think I overdid the reading. As somebody said, there should be balance in everything. In this case, some reading and some physical work or movement should do the trick.
