BAGUIO CITY– Various sports, cultural, religious and arts activities have been lined up for the Summer Vacation in Baguio (SumVac) 2019, an official said on Friday.
“As in the past years, the calendar is expected to offer an array of religious, cultural, historical, environmental, sports and medical activities,” city information office chief Aileen Refuerzo said.
She said the city government prepares activities for the duration of the summer season as an additional offering, aside from the tourist attractions in Baguio.
Refuerzo said the “SumVac” normally covers the months of April, May and June but the activities started as early as March.
Among the activities lined up are for the “Araw ng Kagitingan”, Liberation Day and Kafagway events, Summer Arts Expo, Cultural and Baguio Musical Festival, Summer Tourism and Sports Activities, Summer Health and Environmental Programs by the City Health Services Office, Jobs and livelihood fair for Labor Day, Search for Lucky Summer Visitor during Holy Week by the Baguio-based media, and several religious activities led by the City Human Resource Management Office, the Baguio Character Council, and religious institutions.
Several village fiestas during the summer season have also been included on the list of activities.
For the first time since the annual summer offering was introduced in the early 1990s, the event will include a working committee to maintain the city’s United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Creative Cities declaration.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan issued Administrative Order No. 29 series of 2019 for the reorganization of the SUMVAC working bodies.
“This is in keeping with the city’s commitment as a Creative City under the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), to pursue creative endeavors towards productivity and sustainable development,” he said.
The committees are tasked to begin ground preparations for the events, including the traditional activities and the new ones, in partnership with government agencies, non-government organizations, and the private sector. **PNA
