TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) — More health facilities and better healthcare services are coming for the people of Tabuk, as the city government plans to establish a 100-bed hospital, and another Super Rural Health Unit (RHU).
Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero announced the ongoing construction of the Tabuk City Diagnostic Center and Emergency Hospital in a five-hectare lot in Barangay Appas, to make specialized health services accessible to the people.
“Designed with state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge equipment such as MRI, CT Scan, and laser-guided surgical systems, the hospital will not only raise the standard of medical care but also ensure that patients can access specialized services within the city, reducing the need to travel to distant urban centers,” said Estrañero in his State of the City Address at the Tabuk City People’s Gym on September 15, 2025.
The facility, which construction Estrañero said is now 40 percent complete, will provide quality, accessible, and comprehensive healthcare. It is also an investment to position the city as a regional health destination, he added.
Aside from the hospital, Estrañero announced the construction of another Super RHU to cater the residents of the city’s most populous area. It aims to decongest the RHU 3 in Barangay Bulanao to improve doctor-to-patient ratio.
The local chief executive said the planned establishment of the health facility in Barangay Bulanao Norte will be allocated a budget of P15 million for 2026.
“The construction of the Super Rural Health Unit 5 in Barangay Bulanao Norte is a vital step in strengthening the city’s primary healthcare delivery system. This facility, targeted to open by 2026, will significantly help decongest the existing RHUs that are currently experiencing high patient volumes,” said Estrañero.
It will be recalled that Tabuk City inaugurated its first Super Health Center in 2024 in Barangay Agbannawag.
Funded through Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, the Super Health Center operates as a semi-hospital, equipped to provide a wide range of primary care services including outpatient consultations, birthing facility, laboratory tests, X-ray examinations, minor surgeries, dental care, pharmacy services, and ambulance services. **JDP/IOS-PIA CAR, Kalinga
