Some one thousand calamity-stricken families in Baguio City and the neighboring town of La Trinidad, Benguet benefitted from the series of relief operations conducted by the management of SM City Baguio and SM Foundation after the onslaught of Supertyphoon Lawin that struck Northern Luzon last week.
SM City Baguio and SM Foundation personnel distributed some 500 food packs to the calamity victims in Irisan, the families of the caddies of the Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay and the mall agency personnel (janitorial and security guards) who were affected by the wrath of the weather disturbance while the other 500 food packs were distributed to the calamity victims in barangays Puguis, Alapang and Ambiong.
Each of the food packs contained several kilos of rice, noodles, canned goods and bottled water enough to provide food for the calamity victims.
The relief operations were done in coordination with the City Government of Baguio and the La Trinidad Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC).
SM management expressed its sympathy to the calamity victims of Supertyphoon Lawin not only in the region but also in other parts of Northern Luzon with the hope that they will be able to recover from the damage they suffered.
“The resilience of Filipinos to rise up from whatever disasters that have struck them was again put to test following the onslaught of Supertyhoon Lawin. We are optimistic that with the blessings of our Almighty Father, we will be able to hurdle another obstacle that confront us in our efforts to uplift the living condition of our respective families,” the SM management stated.
The SM Management and its foundation assured the public that it will continue to be mindful of the needs of calamity victims, especially in heavily devastated areas, to help them recover.**
