BAGUIO CITY – All is set for the 108th Charter Anniversary celebration on Friday with the theme, “Baguio at 108: Land of Champions.”
Highlights will be the traditional program slated at 8 a.m. at the Baguio Convention Center with Mixed Martial Arts world champion Eduard Folayang as guest of honor and speaker.
During the program, the city will award the three outstanding citizens chosen by the Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio (SOCOB). They are Ret. Gen. Benjamin Magalong for public service, Dr. Joan Balderas for community service and Dr. Dionisio Claridad for medical service.
This year’s celebration will feature the city as the land of champions to highlight the fact that the city produced a lot of frontrunners in various competitions nationally and internationally this year.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan said this proves that the city is moving towards excellence in various fields.
In keeping with the theme, the city will honor individuals who won national and international competitions led by Folayang and Ms. International Kylie Verzosa during the program.
The celebration will be launched in a program set Aug. 29, 8 a.m. at the City Hall Flagpole Grounds.
During the program, the city government will confer awards to two of the city’s recent awardees who brought honor to the city.
They are the Pinsao National High School Sakusak Musical Ensemble who for the third time in as many years copped the Best Folkloric Performance during the Aliwan Fiesta and Cherry Rose Fernandez, Reyna ng Aliwan 2017 Ms. Friendship.
The mayor will deliver the inspirational message while Charter Day celebration executive committee co-chair Councilor Elmer Datuin will open the program.
A press briefing will follow at the multi-purpose hall to be led by city administrator Carlos Canilao, execomm co-chair.
Various activities make up the Baguio Day calendar as prepared by execomm and the city tourism operations office under officer-in-charge Jose Maria Rivera.
As in the past years, a calendar of activities will mark the celebration for the whole month of September.
Highlights include the Baguio Day Health Fair at the Baguio Convention Center on August 25 to render various free medical services to indigents, Ms. Baguio and Mr. Baguio pageants, Job Fair on Sept. 16 at the Baguio Convention Center, concerts, cultural shows and various sports competitions.** Aileen P.
