Sixteen-year-old Juan Carlos “JC” Sumbad of Pinget barangay earned praises for saving the life of a senior citizen he performed first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on.
Victor Chua, son of the 64-year-old man JC saved, profusely thanked the young man for his selfless deed and attitude.
He said Sumbad without hesitation alighted from the jeepney he was riding in to help his father whom the boy saw lying face down along Dizon Subd. last Dec. 4. It turned out that his father who was a stroke survivor suffered from a heart attack.
Chua said medical responders told him that if not for JC’s quick thinking and response, his father would have transpired right there and then.
He said his father had been discharged from the intensive care unit and is now about to undergo a heart bypass operation.
Chua said JC’s kind attitude is one of a kind and deserves commendation.
“I hope that the kid will be commended officially. I offered a cash reward but he politely declined because he said kindness should be normalized,” Chua enthused.
He said he also found out that JC was able to help another person in need in Abanao last July.
“As a young man at 16 years old, he changed our lives,” Chua said.
JC is a special education (SPED) student at Easter College.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong upon learning of JC’s heroism expressed the city government’s gratitude and pride over having a youthful constituent with exemplary character.
“Your compassion and love for others is commendable and worth emulating. We hope that more youth will follow your lead,” the mayor said. ** Aileen P. Refuerzo
