The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) conducted the pen-and-paper qualifying examination for the 2024 DOST-SEI S&T Undergraduate Scholarship on August 6-7, 2024, across 205 test centers nationwide. In the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), 1,547 students took part in the pen-and-paper examination held at eight (8) testing centers across the region’s provinces. Additionally, 155 examinees from CAR competed for scholarships under the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration’s (OWWA) Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) and the Congressional Migrant Workers Scholarship Program (CMWSP). OWWA incorporates the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination into its selection criteria for these programs.
A total of 201 students in the region qualified for the scholarship. This is composed of 92 students under the RA 7687 scholarship program, which supports academically talented students from economically disadvantaged families, and 109 under the Merit Scholarship Program. Moreover, four (4) potential qualifiers, whose names have not yet been announced, will receive email notifications to resubmit specific requirements for further evaluation.

Furthermore, the region-wide orientations for the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Program and policies, as well as the signing of scholarship agreements, will be conducted as follows: July 9 in Abra, July 10 in Apayao, July 11 in Mt. Province and Kalinga, July 12 in Ifugao, and July 19 in Benguet and Baguio City. These orientations aim to provide new scholars with essential guidelines and information related to the scholarship, regardless of whether they choose to sign the scholarship agreement.
Qualifiers will receive their scholarships for the Academic Year 2024-2025, commencing their first year of college with both financial and academic support. Qualifiers must enroll in a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program in one of the priority fields of Science and Technology (S&T) at a state university or college, or any private higher education institution recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a Center of Excellence or Center of Development. They also can choose an institution with Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines Level III accreditation for the BS program they intend to pursue. The list of priority S&T programs is available on the DOST-SEI website. Starting from the academic year 2024-2025, scholars may also opt for BS programs in Sports Science, Data Science, Agribusiness Economics, and Orthotics and Prosthetics.
The scholarship benefits are substantial, including tuition fee subsidies of up to P40,000 per academic year, increased monthly stipends of P8,000 effective January 2024, a learning materials/connectivity allowance of P5,000 per semester, health insurance, a clothing allowance, a transportation allowance, and additional support for thesis and graduation expenses. These financial aids are complemented by non-monetary S&T learning assistance, ensuring comprehensive support for the scholars.
DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded to incoming college freshmen who meet eligibility criteria and pass the qualifying exam. The scholarship program aims to encourage talented Filipino youth to pursue careers in science and technology, ensuring a skilled workforce for national development. Upon completing their degrees, scholars must contribute to their specialized fields in the Philippines, in either public or private sectors, for a period equal to their scholarship duration. **GMA
