ATOK, Benguet– Three senior citizens were injured when a Mitsubishi Pajero with plate number BKS 777 fell in a ravine about 10 meters deep at Kilometer 54 Cuttubo, Atok, Benguet along the Bontoc-Baguio Road or Halsema Highway at about 2:15 pm of October 7, 2017.
The vehicle was driven by Basilio Mamanteo, 68, married, retired DENR director and resident of Poblacion, Sabangan, Mountain Province
The passengers were identified as Fructosa Mamanteo, 65, driver’s wife, retired municipal agriculturist and Flaviana Daday, 60, married, retired teacher and resident of Camatagan, Sabangan, Mountain Province.
Investigation disclosed that the vehicle was heading towards Baguio City when it slid on a wet and curve portion of the Bontoc-Baguio road causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle ran over the road parapet and fell into the ravine.
The driver and passengers who sustained injuries were brought by concerned citizens to Atok District Hospital in Sayangan, Paoay, Atok, Benguet. The vehicle incurred damage on its body.
A relative of the driver disclosed that the three were about to proceed to Manila to attend a wake of a relative of Fructosa Mamanteo. **Ferdie Cariño Castañeda
