The Department of Health – Cordillera reported an increase of fireworks related injuries (FWRI) in the Cordillera during the celebration of Christmas and New Year. During the Kapihan sa Baguio forum, DOH nurse Victoria Malicdan said there were 50 FWRI cases in the Cordillera region this year compared to the 41 cases in 2023 which is a 22 percent increase.
To be able to prevent and avoid FWRI, Malicdan said there is a need to strengthen the campaign of the government on Republic Act No. 7183 or the sale, manufacture, distribution, and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices. **RMC PIA-CAR
