PBGEN NOEL B VALLO, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO CAR), joined government officials, local chief executives, representatives from various organizations, and community members in commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the 1986 Mount Data Peace Accord, also known as Sipat Day, held at Mount Data Hotel in Bauko, Mountain Province, on September 13, 2026.
Also present during the program were Secretary Mel Senen S. Sarmiento, Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, represented by Presidential Assistant Wilben M Mayor, together with local officials of Mountain Province, including Hon. Maximo Y. Dalog, Jr., Lone District Representative; Hon. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr., Governor; Hon. Randolf T. Awisan, Mayor of the Municipality of Bauko; and PCOL MARCELO B POLIG, Provincial Director of the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office.
Representatives from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, the University of the Philippines–Diliman, the Mountain Province State University, and other partner government agencies, organizations, and community stakeholders also joined the celebration.
The celebration honors the historic Sipat — an indigenous peace ritual and ceasefire held on September 13, 1986, between the Philippine Government, under then-President Corazon C. Aquino, and the Cordillera Bodong Administration–Cordillera People’s Liberation Army (CBA-CPLA) led by Fr. Conrado Balweg.
The 1986 Mount Data Peace Accord marked a significant milestone in the pursuit of peace in the Cordillera, paving the way for the cessation of armed hostilities and strengthening efforts toward dialogue, reconciliation, and development in the region. It likewise contributed significantly to the establishment of the Cordillera Administrative Region through Executive Order No. 220.
