More than 7,000 delegates to the Cordillera Administrative Regional Athletic Association (CARAA) and the Regional Academic Festival (RAF) will be in Baguio City from April 29 to May 1, 2023.
A total of 5,105 delegates will be joining the CARAA and around 2,000 will be joining the RAF to be conducted simultaneously.
For the CARAA, the biggest number of contingents are from the Apayao Division with 727 followed by Tabuk City Division with 723 and Kalinga Division with 719.
Mountain Province Division will be fielding 676 contingents; Benguet Division 641; Abra Division 545; Baguio City Division 539; and, Ifugao Division 535.
Delegates started arriving April 27 onwards and are being housed in nine schools in the city as identified by the Department of Education – Division of Baguio City.
The Baguio City National high School will house the Baguio City Division; SPED Center will house the Ifugao Division; Baguio Central School will house the Tabuk City Division while Mabini Elementary School will house the Apayao Division.
Kalinga Division will be accommodated at the Bonifacio Elementary School; Benguet Division will be at the Josefa Cariño Elementary School; Abra Division will be at the Rizal Elementary School and Rizal National High School; while the Mountain Province Division will be at the Quezon Elementary School.
As host local government unit, Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong issued Executive Order No. 56, series of 2023 tasking several offices in the city to assist DepEd Baguio for the weekend activities and ensure proper coordination with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office as the overall coordinator.
Immediately, the Baguio City Police Office activated its operations plan for security, traffic management, crowd management and round-the-clock security of the concerned areas.
Since the pandemic, CARAA has been put on hold, nevertheless, the DepEd CAR sawto it that showcasing of skills, athleticism, and sportsmanship are prioritized. ** JMPS
