LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) – – More than a hundred farmers of Lagawe attended the first Farmers’ Day on August 31, 2023 in recognition of their contributions to the economic development of the municipality and the country as a whole.
The activity commenced with a contested parade around the Poblacion participated in by the delegates from the rural based organizations of the 20 barangays of Lagawe showcasing their respective products or source of livelihood in the area.
A program was also conducted at the Public Plaza with municipal and provincial officials in attendance to support the farmers. The attendees also joined in the parlor games and quiz bee.
Governor Jerry Dalipog thanked the farmers for their contributions to the economy of the province particularly in food security. He assured that the provincial local government is supportive and ready to extend assistance to their organizations’ programs and services that will benefit the members in attaining food sufficiency.
Dalipog bared that upon the completion of the construction of the trading post in Lagawe town, the provincial government in coordination with municipal mayors and farmers’ organizations will set or plan the needed marketing strategies to help farmers promote or sell their products.
The governor also stressed that farmers are the backbone of society and economy because they are the ones producing food for the table and providing raw materials for industrialization.
Councilor Davis Pulao shared that the Farmers’ Day is by virtue of Municipal Ordinance No. 2019-02 he authored with former councilor Homa Liwayan to highlight the farmers’ contributions to society.**JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao
