Board Member James Frederick Dulnuan aims to further improve the conditions of public schools in Ifugao in the next three years amid the strong push of the education agenda of Governor Pedro Mayam-o.
Board Member Dulnuan, chairperson of the Committee on Education and Public Information, said the infusion of more funds for the improvement of facilities would largely overcome the poor infrastructure problem in the province’s public elementary and high schools.
To achieve this goal, Board Member Dulnuan has focused on seeking the immediate provision of funds for the completion of projects in government-operated schools in Aguinaldo, Alfonso Lista, Banaue, Hingyon, Hungduan, Lagawe, Lamut and Mayoyao.
Completion of work project is a key factor in upgrading the conditions of the province’s public schools. Filipinos are truly blessed that they have the opportunity to obtain primary and secondary degrees in education for appropriate schools abound in every town. The sole problem is that these public schools generally lack good and adequate facilities.
Lack of classrooms, science laboratories and even canteens continue to hound teachers and all educators alike. For instance, six public central schools in Ifugao have no canteens.
In an exclusive interview with the ZigZag Weekly, Board Member Dulnuan said prioritizing the need of Ifugao’s public schools has always been in his legislative agenda and a must-do, must-implement item of his office’s development thrust pipeline for the public to better understand the importance of education.
He explained that the partnership of his committee and Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) Sally Ullalim will help immensely in attaining the objective in lifting the standards of the school facilities.
Infrastructure projects for ten public schools in Aguinaldo, Alfonso Lista, Hingyon, Hungduan, Lamut and Mayoyao towns valued at about Php 1.5 million have moved a step closer in elevating these standards after getting the go-ahead signal from SDS head Ullalim.
These learning institutions include Aguinaldo Central School, Sta. Maria National High School, Kiling Centro Day Care Center, Little Tadian Elementary School Annex, Sto. Domingo Elementary School, Eastern Potia National High School, Hingyon National High School, Bangbang Elementary School, Tulaed National School and Hapid National High School.
At the same time, Board Member Dulnuan has vowed to support the cause of improving facilities of the Cudog National High School and Lagawe Central School, both in Lagawe.
All of these developments have moved one step further the provincial government’s service to the people.
“We intend to work harder in order to respond to the needs of our teachers, pupils and students and in recognition of the value of education in Philippine society,” Dulnuan said.
“We can understand better the task before us by consulting with our teachers and all stakeholders and, thus, find meaning in our mission,” he added.
Apart from improving a school’s physical make-up or outlook, construction works- from riprap of a damaged wall within school premises to putting up a canteen, also contribute directly to job generation.
Board Member Dulnuan has been lauded by civil society organizations for his exemplary leadership and innovative projects and initiatives in Ifugao. He has also been cited for his outstanding contributions in nation-building.
