HINGYON, Ifugao– Twenty five Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries and 25 women farmers of this town and Kiangan were trained on swine raising and organic feed formulation.
The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET) conducted the training for the Nahapad-Bitu Farmers Association (NBFA) of this town and the Tuplac Women’s Association (TWA) of Kiangan.
PVET Training Coordinator Ferdinand Duncan said that through the training, the participants would be updated on the technologies which are essential to operate livelihood or income generating projects they are venturing into. It also introduced them to innovations so they can earn additional income.
He noted that lack of technical know-how including financial inputs on the part of the farmers result in low productivity. The training would prepare the farmers to qualify to avail of government assistance to start their enterprises.
Lectures covered topics on Good Animal Husbandry Practices, Breeding, Care and Health Management of swine, Feeds and Nutrition, raising and management of native pigs and demonstration on Organic Feed Formulation using indigenous materials.
After the lectures, the participants were given a hands-on practicum in the preparation of fermented organic feeds.
