BAGUIO CITY – The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) on Thursday said operations of businesses located inside Camp John Hay here will continue amid the transition of the management of the leased area to the government.
In a statement shared to Baguio City journalists, Leilani Barlongay-Macasaet Vice President of BCDA’s Public Affairs office said: “BCDA assures the public that businesses will continue to operate in Camp John Hay.”
“BCDA is closely coordinating with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition,” she said.
The statement was issued after the Supreme Court En Banc, in a resolution dated Oct. 22, 2024, ruled to deny with finality the motions filed by private developer Camp John Hay Development Corporation (CJHDevCo) and its third-party respondents over rights on the questioned portion of the property.
The SC earlier allowed the BCDA to recover the 247-hectare property in the John Hay Special Economic Zone (JHSEZ) from the private developer.
The area is part of the 695-hectare John Hay reservation placed under the management of BCDA after the United States ceded in the early 1990s the area it originally used as a rest and recreation facility.
CJHDevCo leased the area from the BCDA.
It was learned that the Clerk of Court of the Supreme Court issued last Oct. 22 an Entry of Judgment, certifying that the SC decision dated April 3, 2024 has been filed and recorded with the Judicial Records Office.
The Supreme Court’s decision affirms the 2015 arbitral award as well as reinstates the writ of execution and notice ordering CJHDevCo and all persons claiming rights under them to vacate the subject leased premises within Camp John Hay. **Liza Agoot
