Eight farming communities in Lagawe, Ifugao are set to benefit from the rehabilitation of a Php368-million Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) with bridge subproject under the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) Scale-Up.
On July 30, 2025, the municipal government of Lagawe officially broke ground for the improvement along Caba-Luta-Ponghal-Buyabuyan FMR with bridge.
Leading the groundbreaking and capsule-laying ceremonies were Vice Governor Martin L. Habawel Jr., Mayor Leslie Roy Nayahangan, and DA Agriculture Program Coordination Office (APCO) for Ifugao Assistant APCO officer Daisy Yogyog, together with other local officials and project stakeholders.
Vice Governor Habawel Jr., who originally proposed the subproject during his term as mayor, described the undertaking as a “dream come true” following over a year of planning and securing necessary approvals. Current Mayor Nayahangan, who now oversees its implementation, welcomed the initiative as a significant blessing for Lagawe. He emphasized that its full potential would be realized through proper execution and the development of complementary projects.
Representing DA-CAR Regional Executive Director Atty. Jennilyn M. Dawayan, Yogyog delivered her message of appreciation, commending the strong collaboration between local officials and the community that made the subproject’s approval and implementation possible.
“This is a shared responsibility—from start to finish, the community, officials, contractor, and the DA-PRDP will need to work hand in hand to monitor the project, ensure its quality, and see to it that it is completed according to standards and on schedule,” she emphasized.
Barangay officials and subproject beneficiaries were also present during the event, expressing their full support for the subproject’s implementation. The municipal government, in turn, conveyed its gratitude to the Sangguniang Bayan Members for their support, particularly in approving the LGU’s counterpart, a critical requirement for securing project funding.
Once completed, the road project is expected to boost agricultural productivity and improve market access for local farmers, directly benefiting 3,808 residents (2,148 male and 1,886 female). It will also strengthen the operations of existing coffee enterprises and other agricultural ventures in the area. **Jake B. Dangayo, LGU Lagawe
