A man must make his way through life. He must earn a living and just how life should be, one must work hard in order to reach the top.
But that is simply not the case for our nation. If you wake up early in the morning, it is a guarantee there is a taho seller who woke up earlier than you and is already at the front gate shouting the symbolic word, “TAHOOO”.
Inside a classroom there are often students with jobs to maintain along with their grades. They work on two fronts and must live two lives.
Everytime you ride a jeepney, you can see the driver counting his day’s worth and flips through the bills. You can only wonder if he has made enough to get through the week.
But some officials do not walk the same path as the masses do. They do not toil and perform physical labor under the hot and sweltering sun nor do they work through the night on a daily basis as jeepney drivers do. They perform their duties inside air-conditioned buildings with the help of all their assistants and go back to their fancy homes at the end of the day.
Their work culminates in the system we currently live in. It is a system where the people always lose, no matter if they work till their feet and hands are covered in scars.
Ordinary Filipinos live in a country where the system has been against them since day one. The concept of “hard work” is a lie in this land, if you work hard, you still lose, they win, if you weren’t lucky enough to be born a nepo baby then tough luck.
The game at hand is cruel and ruthless, and just like in school, the game only stops if enough people want out.**
