Anger, they say, is a feeling that is to be avoided. It is dangerous and is an emotion that will get somebody hurt. But that is a narrative that is spread to negate any accountability to get to those in power. They preach all about peace and the process of dialogue in sorting out conflicts, but their words do not speak the truth.
Threats are common tactics to scare ordinary Filipinos in order to get their votes. Torture is the method used on activists when they demand better. And they will not talk about projects that harm the land and therefore harm farmers.
Anger exists for a reason. It is a fuel that helps the people fight back against injustice. The very methods of our politicians, bribery, intimidation, corruption, all of which are very far from peaceful actions.
Don’t let their words of peace confuse us. Behind closed doors and sometimes even on the very open, they practice the opposite of what they preach. Anger then becomes a good thing in fighting against hypocrites.
There has not been any actions yet of reconciliation, there has been no stolen money returned to the people, there has been no accountability, and there has been no authentic intent to do better on their part. The only realistic and logical response to that is anger. Be angry for they have done you and your forebearers wrong for so many years now and yet they continue to do so. They are not better people just because they appear clean, but we can be better than our current state of extreme servility towards undeserving people by being angry. **
