BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — With the long weekend ahead in observance of Undas, the Department of Health Center for Health and Development Cordillera (DOH–CAR) has reminded the public of the importance of ensuring health and safety on their vacation and travel plans.
The DOH-CAR, through its Health Education and Promotion Office, said everyone should practice preventive measures against influenza-like illnesses (ILI), seasonal allergies, and other respiratory diseases, especially with the anticipated influx of visitors and the onset of the amihan (Northeast Monsoon) that is expected to bring colder temperatures.
Do regular handwashing, cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and wear masks in crowded areas especially the children and senior citizens who are most vulnerable to infectious diseases, the DOH-CAR said, adding that those who are already feeling sick or unwell are advised to stay at home and rest, and be wary of infecting family or household members by keeping distance and using face mask.
For those who have vacation plans that require travel, the DOH-CAR also urged them to follow the BLOWBAGSET safety checklist: Brakes, Lights, Oil, Water, Battery, Air, Gas, Self, Engine, and Tires.
People are also reminded to mask up in overcrowded vehicles, ensure proper hydration, and properly plan a safe and stress-free journey.
As part of preparedness actions for Undas, the DOH-CAR said it is on Code White alert, and will activate its regional Health Emergency Operations Center for 24/7 monitoring and timely coordination of health concerns to local health offices and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC).
During the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment meeting on Oct. 27, the DOH-CAR assured the availability and accessibility of health emergency commodities prepositioned at the different city and provincial DOH offices. **JDP/CCD- PIA CAR
