The first item of introspection struck between Christmas season of 2025 and the November barangay and SK synchronized elections of this year refers to the actions of barangay government officials of Aguinaldo, Ifugao. The concept of transformative leadership filled me with optimism.
The “Pailaw sa Barangay” (Christmas lights at the village) easily impressed me. You can probably guess why I chose this topic for my commentary and where this discussion is heading.
In conjunction with the festive mood during this year-end activity, municipal government officials helped villagers to give “the sense,” so that the people understand the activity.
At that time, villagers actively decorated the town’s roadsides. Recycled and inexpensive materials were used. Old and young folks took part. They placed signs and messages welcoming the birth of Jesus Christ. It was a people-driven project with a purpose. I saw the impeccable orderliness and timely action at which everything leads to the realization of the “bayanihan spirit.” To a large extent, this signals a shift to good governance in this part of the nation, particularly in Ifugao.
This is good because poverty-stricken Ifugao may finally wake up and evolve to make it more appealing. Hurry up, time is ticking fast! The mission of the Aguinaldo municipal government is to conduct an activity that promotes the well-being of folks over time, as a public service. Even for a short time, it contributed to the people’s welfare.
In the other 81 provinces, concerned Filipinos view good governance as essential to the people’s welfare and subsequently to the nation’s growth and development.
Good leaders have always been at the forefront of helping their constituents at all times. I recognize the commendable efforts of Mayor Celeste Talusig and Sangguniang Bayan Secretary James Frederick Dulnuan for supporting the just-concluded “Pailaw sa Barangay” project. Driven by his exemplary leadership and values, Mayor Talusig has contributed to the successful implementation of this project. While SB secretary Dulnuan is bringing with him over nine years of rich experience and the strength of the Sangguninang Panlalawigan (as board member) to the powerful and influential Sangguniang Bayan of Aguinaldo. That’s why it is so important for the SB secretary to assist the vice mayor who is the presiding officer, and hand the legislative body responsibly.
Observing the schedules and this time the preparation of this project clearly falls under Dulnuan’s purview, engaging communities, as a result enabling them to realize their potential as vital contributors to the economy.
Where else for Christmas 2026 but a trip to Aguinaldo. I’m always delighted to share the good news because the “Pailaw sa Barangay” was another milestone to push the town’s industry. It is time to provide all-out support for tourism enterprises, thus empowering stakeholders to live productive and meaningful lives. If possible, as the largely dormant and inactive SK to take actively take part in this activity.
This initiative is truly inspiring because it promotes inclusivity. I want to congratulate and honor not only the above mentioned officials, but also barangay council officials and folks behind the scenes who work tirelessly to advance community development.
In any event, promoting good governance requires a strong push for enlightenment of voters in the grassroots level. As Aguinaldo folks face the challenges ahead, public and private sector leaders should remain steadfast in their aspiration to build a better and a more prosperous town.
Planning an innovative project is one thing, but implementing it offers a different perspective. This project is truly a tremendous step in interacting with ordinary folks- such as sari-sari store owners, youngsters, teachers, farmers and many more.
Aguinaldo highlighted the yuletide season celebration on a positive note through this innovative and noteworthy project.
Can’t stand the scorching heat? Go to Aguinaldo and (hopefully) see the Pailaw sa Barangay 2026 edition. Can’t be wrong, there would be more bright lights and bright hopes. Take my word for it.**
