BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio Water District (BWD) has advised the public to help save water ahead of the start of the country’s dry season.
“Water conservation starts at home, and small daily actions can create a lasting impact on our community. As we continue to face environmental challenges, mindful water use remains a shared responsibility among all residents,” the BWD said in a social media post.
BWD suggested using basins in washing dishes, doing laundry in bulk, using a glass of water when brushing teeth, thawing food in the chiller instead of placing it under running water and using pails and buckets in taking a bath instead of showers as among effective water conservation measures.
Mark Victor Pasagoy, information officer of the BWD, in a message on Tuesday, said these water conservation tips must be practiced regularly.
He, meanwhile, said the city’s water supply is stable.
“Wala pa naman adjustment for the rationing ng supply. As per latest update, manageable pa naman as we enter the ‘official’ dry season (There is no adjustment as to the rationing schedule. Based on the latest update, the situation is manageable as we enter the official dry season),” he added.
Aside from the Central Business District and other areas which gets 24-hour continuous supply, majority of the city gets water supply twice or thrice a day via rationing.
The BWD also continues to maintain the different containment facilities such as the Sto. Tomas rain catchment and the newly constructed facility inside the Busol Watershed.
Engr. Salvador Royeca, BWD general manager, earlier reported that there are 51,270 active water connections in Baguio sourced from 73 underground deep wells, 89 pumping stations and four spring sources with a total production of 55,802 cubic meters a day. **Liza Agoot
